CARBON CYCLE CITY VR (2023)

VIRTUAL REALITY ARTWORK | WEB-BASED | 12:00  MIN

The virtual reality artwork explores the many aspects that make Carbon Cycle City possible.  From bio-based tech, to citizen-science initiatives, and the historical responsibilities of carbon emissions that were caused by ancestors. The artwork takes inspiration from video game mechanics. Hidden audio stories throughout the cityscape can be found in a point-and-click adventure style in 360°.

In combination with the artwork there's a sources website that shows the science behind the fiction. The audience is invited to look deeper into their topics of interest. Also, in exhibition, there's a feedback website where we ask the audience to reflect, ask questions and share ideas.

SPONGE CITIZEN IDs (2024)

HD VIDEO PROJECTION | 16:9 | COLOR | WITH SOUND | LOOP | 1:00 MIN | DIMENSIONS VARIABLE | WITH AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION – WALL COLLAGE OF PRINTS

Animated short film featuring Sponge City denizens which the audience can interact with within the VR artwork. This video art piece offers more insights about their diverse roles that make Sponge City possible. The characters appear on ID cards depicting their backgrounds combined with (AI-generated) voice overs of the denizens telling their stories.

Paired alongside a participatory format that invites the audience to fill out their own Sponge Citizen ID cards. The cards prompt them to reflect upon their personal role should they become inhabitants of such a city someday. The filled out IDs can then be put up on the wall,  collectively creating a collage of many different perspectives towards this future.
